FAQ
Is it cheaper to hire handyman than general contractors for the same job?
Yes! Sometimes a handyman is a cheaper option than a general contractor. This is especially true if you have never had a contractor perform a particular job before. Because they have the expertise to complete certain tasks more quickly and efficiently, a handyman can speed up the project's completion.
When is the best time of year to hire handymen?
There isn't really a "right" time to hire a handyman. All you need is to get going as soon and as quickly as possible. Of course, you can wait until after the holidays to save some money. However, you can also call various handymen by picking up the phone.
What should I choose: hourly or per-project?
Personal preference will dictate the final price. Some prefer to pay their handyman by the hour. This allows them to see exactly what they charge. Some prefer to pay for each project, even though they may be doing multiple jobs at once. Either way works fine.
Do I need a license to become a handyman?

How To
How to replace a broken window
One of the most popular home improvement projects is to replace broken windows. This task involves repairing any damage to your glass. The repair should take approximately 30 minutes. If you don't know how to replace broken glass, you could cause more damage to your home. This article contains some tips to help you replace a damaged window.
First step: Take the glass out of its frame
First, remove all screws that hold the glass in place. Next, take out the lock at top center of the window frame's bottom section. Next, lift the window upwards so it isn’t attached to sill plates (the metal bars below the floor). Finally, use a pry tool to carefully loosen the remaining screws until they pop out of their holes. After the panes have been removed from the window, clean them well.
Second step: Clean your new glass
You can wipe any dirt off the glass surface with a towel or a dry cloth. To remove any dirt or other debris from the glass' surface, spray it with water and rub alcohol.
Third step: Reinstall the new glass
Attach the window frames to the panes. Start by pushing down on the lower edge of the outermost pane with the tip of a screwdriver. Gently push the pane into the opening of the frame. Next, move on to the next pane and press it against the frame before attaching it. Continue inserting the panes until the entire window is assembled. Seal the area where the panes meet with silicone caulk gun.
Fourth step: Repair any damage.
If you are installing new glass, be sure to inspect the area where the break occurred. This will help determine if further repairs are necessary. If the break occurred near the corner of the window, install two small pieces of wood along each side of the hole. These wooden blocks will be strong and can also act as spacers, keeping the glass in its place during expansion and contract of the weatherproofing.
Fifth step: Seal the repaired area
After the glass has been replaced, apply a bead of silicone caulking to the perimeter edges of the window frame. This will create a good seal between the glass and the surrounding wallboard. Silicone caulking is available at hardware stores as well as online. You should choose a color to match the wall paint.
Finally, let the caulking cure overnight. After the caulking has dried completely, do not disturb it. You can cause cracking in the caulking if it isn't left enough time.
